The National Rehabilitation Association was founded in the early 1920s. Its formation was fueled by professionals in vocational education and workers in the State-Federal program of rehabilitation who recognized the importance of a specific organization to address the needs of people with disabilities.
The NRA's purpose as published in the 2002 Reference Manual is as follows:
The National Rehabilitation Association is a member organization whose mission is providing opportunities through knowledge and diversity for professionals in the fields of rehabilitation of people with disabilities.
NRA advances it's purpose by adhering ot the following values:
1. all peopleIRA conforms to the values and mission set out by NRA, but on a state level.
